El incidente vial ocurrió alrededor de las 02:30 hs. en calle Sarmiento al 400, a metros de la intersección con calle 25 de Mayo. Almonacid, quien como muchos salió a festejar el pase a semifinales de la Selección Argentina en el Mundial 2026, perdió el control del vehículo que manejaba, subió a la vereda e impactó contra un árbol.
Según pudo saber HD Pico Truncado, los vecinos de la zona se comunicaron al 911 al ver que el secretario general del gremio, quien era el único ocupante de la Chevrolet Meriva color gris, intentaba retirar el vehículo de ese espacio moviéndolo hacia adelante y atrás sin poder lograr con su cometido.
El personal de la Dirección de Tránsito de la Municipalidad que llegó al lugar le requirió a Almonacid la documentación del rodado y que se sometiera al correspondiente test de alcoholemia, pero este se negó. Ante esta situación, y por resistencia a la autoridad, el secretario general de APAP Pico Truncado fue reducido y trasladado a la Comisaría Primera, mientras que el vehículo quedó secuestrado por los agentes municipales.
